What a blessed privilege to be the music director here at Fee Fee. As Bro. Randy gives me the scriptures for his message, I begin searching for worship music that will carry the themes. As the music is selected in preparation for each service, it is interesting to note the parallels between the traditional and contemporary stylings. So many of the contemporary writers are borrowing from the traditional hymns using not only text, but fragments of the original melodies as well. Here are three examples from many that could be cited: Chris Tomlin’s Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) utilizes a verse that was written 100 years later than the original work. There’s also Lord, I Need You by Matt Maher which emerged from the legacy of the old hymn I Need Thee Every Hour. Casting Crowns’ Glorious Day takes its roots from the hymn, One Day. These examples yet again pay tribute to the timelessness of the messages, old and new again, that give credence to the foundational tenets of our faith.
That’s about all I have for now. Maybe we should change “musings” to “meanderings”.
In closing, here’s an important phrase (very significant to the Music
Department) for you to unscramble before the next writing:
HSTRSICMA SI MIGONC!
Your prize is an all expense trip paid by YOU to a Wheel of Fortune show!!!! Or a pat on the back! |
