“Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by actions, is dead.” James 2:17 (NIV)

James, the half-brother of Jesus, was very passionate about  serving the Lord. He began as a skeptic, believing that his half-brother might even be crazy when Jesus claimed to be the son of God. Somewhere along the line, maybe after the resurrection of Jesus, James became a believer. When he placed his faith in the resurrected Christ, it drove him to serve the Lord.

James is often criticized as implying that we are saved by works. Not so. He passionately states that if your faith is real, you will want to be serving the Lord. He says that works are as natural as fruit on a tree. He questions those who claim a relationship with Jesus but show no outward sign of following Christ.

I do know that people who have trusted in Christ and do not serve Him are miserable. James is saying, “If you say you have faith—show me what it means to you. Do something!” Accept that challenge today.

What a great finish to our 40 Days In The Word. We had 30 small groups, 297 people attending and dozens of Micah 6:8 projects helping our friends and neighbors. It was such a joy to see the excitement in our people as they learned how to study the Bible. I was so excited when 19 of those small groups said they want to continue after the first of the year. God continues to bless us in such a wonderful way. If you are not in a small group, sign up now. It will change your life.

The Strategic Planning Committee recently sent out letters to those participating in our Building Fund Project. You know that those pledges expire on December 31, 2014. You also know that we will have a small balance left. If you can, let me encourage you to continue to give until we retire this debt. It can be done in a few months. Mary Louise and I have committed to do so and we hope you will join us.

If you have joined Fee Fee in the last five years and are not currently giving to the Building Fund, “Welcome aboard!” We would love to have you be a part of retiring this debt and celebrating what God has done in this place.

I pray that you have a happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your family. God is so good all the time.

Christmas is around the corner and there is not a better time to invite people to church. Put your faith into action and meet a need. Reach out and help others and it will help you grow in Christ.

Happy Thanksgiving! I love all of you so much.  See you in church,

Brother Randy
